Stripe fee

How it is calculated

The surcharges stack

Stripe lists 2.9% + 30¢ for domestic cards, then separate additions: +0.5% for a manually entered card, +1.5% for an internationally issued card, and +1% when currency conversion is required. These are not alternatives. A foreign card that also needs conversion pays 2.9% + 1.5% + 1% = 5.4%, plus the 30¢. That is nearly double the headline rate, and it is the single most common surprise on a Stripe statement.

The fixed fee is per transaction, so splitting costs money

Every charge carries the same 30¢ regardless of size. Billing $100 once costs 30¢ of fixed fee; billing $25 four times costs $1.20. The comparison above shows that gap for the amount you entered. It is the reason small recurring charges are disproportionately expensive.
